Double Award Winner

On Friday, March 8th, Mrs. Jennifer Ingold was honored as the 2019 Middle School Teacher of Year by the New York State Council for the Social Studies at a luncheon in Albany, New York. The award is given to a Middle School Teacher who is knowledgeable in social studies content and pedagogy, but who is also able to successfully relate to their students at the middle level. Prior to receiving the award, Mrs. Ingold presented at the 81st Annual New York State Social Studies Conference at Albany’s Capitol Center, where her innovative approach to Hacking the Middle School Social Studies Code: Enduring Issues, Ethical Questions and Historical Thinking Using HyperDocs which drew praise from educators from across the state of New York. Mrs. Ingold briefly shared her work in creatively helping every middle school student to be able to better relate to and understand the increased rigor of the new Social Studies framework and standards. The Enduring Issues Essay is a challenging and integral component of the new Global Studies Regents Exam.

Prior to receiving recognition on the state level, Mrs. Ingold was also recognized in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the regional level.  On Saturday, March 2nd,, she became the 2019 recipient of the prestigious Cohen- Jordan Secondary Award given by the Middle States Council of the Social Studies, which recognizes an outstanding secondary social studies teacher who sets high standards for social studies instruction in either a Middle or High School classroom setting. The award is given in honor of the council’s past two presidents, Bernard Cohen and Sister Ann Jordan. She was the council’s choice to represent excellence in secondary social studies education from a distinguished candidate pool of both middle and high school teachers from across the states of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. 

Mrs. Ingold’s recognitions on both the state and regional levels have not only celebrated her hard work and leadership as part of the Bay Shore Social Studies Team, but have done an excellent job showcasing the high expectations and excellence of the Bay Shore School District.
