Every 4 years, our nation gears up to elect or re-elect our Commander-in-Chief, the President of the United States. With Iowa and New Hampshire recently awarding delegates, one could conclude that the race is on.
Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation on Thursday, 9/26/2019 that gives New Yorkers until February to register for the state's presidential primaries - a four-month extension from the previous deadline. If you are a Republican, an Independent, or a Democrat and would like to join and/or change your party affiliation, Valentine's Day is your deadline to fulfill your civic duty as an American Citizen on April 28th. Register with the Suffolk County Board of Elections or the NYS DMV.
You will be able to register for a party as late as Feb. 14 for the April 28th presidential primary. Don't get dumped on Valentine's Day! Party contests for other races are set for June.
P.S. The House of Representatives just passed the Protecting the Right to Organize Act (PRO Act, HR 2474), and it's one of the most significant pieces of labor legislation to come before Congress in years.
