We Need to Act Now

We need your help NOW to fight several bills in Albany that attack public education and teachers.
The Senate Republicans and the Independent Democratic Conference want to push through legislation that strips millions of dollars from New York public schools with a revived Education Tax Credit; silences our voices and those of working people in elections; and attacks the pensions of public employees. Two of these bills were put in just yesterday by Senator Flanagan.
We need your help. Call your state senator. Ask him to reject these bills and these attacks on public education.

While these bills (except for S 4611) are not in the Assembly yet you should also contact your local Assembly member to alert them of your concerns.

These radical, last minute proposals include:
  • Senate Bill 8135, which not only revives the previously killed Education Investment Tax Credit, a gift to the wealthy that strips millions from our public schools, but also allows charter schools to hire uncertified teachers;
  • Senate Bill 8016-A, which would allow charter schools to hire uncertified teachers;
  • Senate Bill 8130, which would limit a union's ability to work for pro-labor, pro-education candidates while allowing those in the 1 percent to fund the candidates of their choice; and
  • Senate Bill 4611, which attacks the pensions of public employees.
