This upcoming week is a big week for our union and our community. Working with NYSUT, the local union community, and other teachers unions, we will be hosting a rally in defense of public education to defy Betsy DeVos and the incoming policies from the Education Department that could devastate our profession. In a contract year, we need to maintain our rights to bargain collectively and those very rights are under attack. The money our district will lose with a voucher program, the decline in enrollment, the loss of positions is not funny; it is frightening. We are dealing with the cards we have been dealt, and even though we did not ask for this, we have to fight back. Not just for our own sake, but for the sake of our children. The Bay Shore community needs us now more than ever. Therefore, let’s come out big and let our parents know that all of us at the BSCTA don't run when the going gets tough. Rather, we stand and we fight, because that is what good teachers do.
