Election Day was a great day for teachers on Long Island. Over the summer, NYSUT made the decision to not support any State Senator who voted against fixing our broken evaluation and testing system. This meant that NYSUT was taking on some of the most powerful State Senators in New York. Teachers from across Long Island united to make phone calls and knock on doors to ensure a more teacher-friendly Senate. On Tuesday 11/6, our hard work paid off. We didn't win just one seat; we won 6 on Long Island! This victory was because of your hard work. I want to thank every member who gave up their free time to knock on doors and/or attend a phone bank in Hauppauge. Now that these Senators are elected, NYSUT and the BSCTA will continue to push them to make sure they live up to their promises by supporting teachers and strengthening public education.
