This weekend, teacher union presidents from across Long Island met to discuss a number of issues that face our unions, including the upcoming court case , Janus vs . AFSCME. This case would allow some of our co-workers to free ride within the union, getting the benefits of our collectively bargained contract, without having to pay dues to the Bay Shore Classroom Teachers ' Association.
This case could severely weaken our union. The less members that we have who are active within our local, the harder it will be for us to bargain on your behalf. Over the coming weeks, we will be providing information about the case and will continue to reach out to you about the importance of sticking with the union.
